The Antiquary 12 Years Old 1980's Bottling Caol IlaColour: Gold. Nose: This is superb indeed, wonderfully honeyed and mentholy. Chestnut honey, some toasted brioche, a whiff of fir smoke, pumpkin cake, a large bag of sultanas, a wee glass of proper old PX, a touch of absinth and all that sings in sync, mind you! Mouth: Incredible arrival, still very punchy and vibrant, smoky (imagine!), with perfect resinous notes, many honeys, some tobacco, then an avalanche of dried fruits (figs as always, bananas,
ripe strawberries
but just enough to let you know the're there and are nicely balanced against the acidity
Green and tropical ones with mango
Not monstrously complex but so satisfying
1984 Macduff 24 year old
Parker rating 90/100 (Outstanding)
Mouth: Classic well aged cognac
perhaps a touch of quality cologne
Outer quote mark This is right up with the major-league 1983s
It’s just great old-style armagnac
The nose was very nice but the mouth is fantastic
which helps
